Targets Unemployed Residents of Rochdale Village for Training
Community Wellness Centers of America, LLC (CWCOA) has partnered with OmniMD to integrate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) technology into local healthcare facilities in Southeast Queens. This initiative, part of a pilot healthcare program backed by Senator Shirley Huntley, will bring cost effective healthcare options to the residents of this area.
This initiative will provide not only needed medical services to the community, but also provide employment for hundreds of residents. According to the plan presented to Governor Cuomo by Senator Huntley, community residents will be trained in EMR technologies — providing opportunities for employment in the field of internet healthcare.
Training will occur in the computer facility located within Rochdale Village, and will cover various disciplines in both internet technology and the use of EMR technologies with specific applications for clinics, physicians, and residents.
Trained residents will be working with participating hospitals, medical schools, and academic institutions in preparation for the implementation of an integrated healthcare program for the area.
CEO and President of CWCOA, Dr. Robert Evans asserts, “We have secured the support from renowned healthcare institutions, specialty physician group practices, and state-supported services for mental illness and HIV/AIDS to provide easily accessible medical services for our community. These services will includes walk-in clinics, cardiovascular services, and diabetes services.”
Mr. Divan Da’ve, the CEO of OmniMD, and Dr. Evans have already implemented several successful projects including the Healthy Heart Project. This cardiovascular screening was held free of charge in Rochdale in November 2010, and was attended by hundreds of residents, legislators, and stakeholders within the community.
Thanks to support from State Senator Shirley Huntley’s office as well as members of the Rochdale Board of Directors; including Joe Evans, Jean Castro, and Janine Cross, this initiative has already begun making a difference for the community of Southeast Queens.
HEALTHCARE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES MISSION OBJECTIVES
The mission of CWCOA is to develop a comprehensive approach to healthcare using information technologies. By identifying specific disparities, this initiative will be able to help tailor healthcare needs to the community of Southeast Queens. This initiative will help the people of Southeast Queens to:
- Automate and standardize the collection of race/ethnicity and all relevant data;
- Prioritize the use of the data for identifying disparities and tailoring improvement efforts for the treatment and educational programs required to address chronic illnesses and diseases;
- Focus our healthcare information technology efforts to address fragmented care delivery for racial/ethnic minorities and provide in-home telemedicine services and access to personal healthcare records through secured access contained within our electronic medical record (EMR) technology system;
- Development of standard practice patterns of care integrated with hospitals and medical services in our community that will provide this healthcare program with increased data analytic capacity to better coordinate care and improve the timely deliverance of care which is fully interoperable with any healthcare information system our local hospitals have adopted.
